Safety Rules for Clay Shooting
- Eye and ear protection is mandatory for all shooters and spectators.
- All actions must be open and firearms unloaded except when the shooter is in the
shooting stand or station and preparing to shoot.
- Firearms must be pointed toward the firing area when loading or clearing a
malfunction.
- Allowable shotgun gauges are 12,20,28 and .410. 10 Ga. Shotguns, Rifles and
handguns are strictly prohibited from the Sporting Clays, Skeet and Traps courses.
The use of slugs, buckshot or shot larger than 7Y2 are prohibited. NO HIGH BASE
LOADS.
- Only clay targets provided and thrown by SCSC are permitted.
- Shooting must be from the designated stands or stations only. NO BACK-UP
SHOOTING. If you are not in a Shooting Stand, YOUR GUN SHOULD NOT BE
LOADED.
- Shooters must not load more than two shells at anyone time and only after in the
Shooting Stand
- Waiting shooters and spectators must stand in the safe zone behind the shooting stand
or station.
- Sporting Clays shooters and observers must remain on the designated paths.
- Shooters must cease firing from the skeet and trap fields when other shooters entering
or returning from the sporting clays course are in the line of fire.
- Traps are to be operated only by trappers assigned by the club. Individuals must not
attempt to service or adjust traps. Any malfunction should be reported to the club
member on duty.
- Only those individuals who have been instructed by the club should load the Skeet or
Trap machines.
- Targets taken above the designated number for that discipline must be paid for upon
the completion of shooting.
All new shooters must be under the direct supervision of a member who is familiar with
the safety regulations.
